URBAN CARPET 8 pieces 180x180 cm. embroidery on canvas

Carpets are representing different maps of Hutong areas in downtown Beijing with a size of approximately one square kilometre and a population of 30000. Each of them has been isolated and presented as autonomous town within the big city. They are embroidered by hand with the same technique of the propaganda slogans on large fabrics used by the communist party during the seventies.

located on the third floor of an abandoned hotel (currently a temporary gallery space), a seesaw exists simultaneously in rooms 313, 314 and 315 by penetrating through the walls. The holes in both partitions are large enough for the metal shaft to move freely, but cuts off all visual contact between the people on the two ends. This gives the players on opposite sides the feeling of interaction and dependence.

Perched upon a plateau at an elevation of 1200 meters above sea level, the structure provides transient visitors with panoramic vistas of the prominent Snøhetta mountain range. Entrance to pavilion image © Klaas van Ommeren reminiscent of rock forms slowly eroded by wind and water processes, the undulating southern facade creates outdoor seating warmed by the sun's rays.Constructed with norwegian shipbuilding techniques in conjunction with advanced fabrication processes and machines, individual 10 inch square wooden beams were milled and assembled with pegs to produce the waving effect.A rigid rectangular frame clad with rusted steel blends into the surrounding landscape while the saturated pine tar treatment of the exterior planks announces its presence to mountain hikers."

"American artist Cindy Sherman's 'Untitled', 2010 is on show as part of the 'Illuminazioni' international exhibition at the Venice Art Biennale 2011.
The larger-than-life photographic work consists of 5 murals, each one depicting Sherman doing what she does best, dressed-up as a somewhat outlandish character: as a pin juggler in a festive, silky jumpsuit, a unitard, sport socks and trainers; dressed in a naked female body suit, holding a sword erect; outfitted as a tap dancer; a middle-aged women in a floral dress, gardening gloves and cross trainers; as well as classic woman in a full-length, red sequined number. Within each mural, Sherman is captured in color, her figure juxtaposed against black and white backdrops reminiscent of classic landscape paintings.The murals are pigment printed on phototex, an adhesive fabric, each varying in dimension.

Dutch designer Dirk Vander Kooij presented his 'Endless' chair at DMY Berlin 2011, where it won the DMY award alongside Yi-Cong Lu's 'living tools' series and clemence seilles 'monumenta'. the award acknowledges design accomplishments and concepts in cooperation with the Bauhaus Archiv / Museum für Gestaltung.dirk's 'endless' chair first started out as his graduation project from the design academy eindhoven, and has now been further developed. 'Endless' sees the production of furniture via a giant robot.
Small bits of recycled refrigerators are poured into the top of the robot arm and melted.
this liquid material is then extruded from a moving arm which draws the plastic material into an endless line which is layered to form a chair or table. This method of production allows one to emphasize gradients of colors and the structure of the furniture piece, and is complete in approximately three hours.

Anish Kapoor: Dirty Corner

'Dirty Corner' is London-based artist Anish Kapoor's monumental site-specific installation created for the fabbrica del vapore in Milan. Fully occupying the site's 'cathedral' space, the sculptural work consists of a huge steel volume that measures 60 metres long and 8 metres high in which visitors can enter. Upon entry, one begins to lose their perception of space, as it gets progressively darker and darker until there is no light, forcing one to use their other senses to guide them through the space.
The entrance of the tunnel is goblet-shaped, featuring an interior and exterior surface that is circular, making minimal contact with the ground. Over the course of the exhibition, the work will be progressively covered by some 160 cubic metres of red soil by a large mechanical device, forming a sharp mountain of dirt in which the tunnel appears to be running through.

The installation has been realized with the support of Galleria Continua, the Lisson Gallery and the Galleria Massimo Minini.

At first glance, de la Cruz's paintings appear to have been vandalised or flagrantly abused. Emotionally raw, yet canny and sharply ironic, de la Cruz confronts the 'problem' with painting by incorporating its very destruction into the work itself. "The moment I cut through the canvas I get rid of the grandiosity of painting."Violent, unapologetic and often darkly humorous, her work unabashedly exposes a visceral emotionalism, breaking the barriers of the established norms of painting. Implicit is the sense that a scene of frenetic violent activity has just taken place leaving in its wake the strangely paradoxical feeling of spent energy and a sense of calm; a visual catharsis.
She has been nominated for 2010 Turner Prize Shortlist.

Aish Kapoor in an interview with designboom: "The sculpture is a total immersion in an unexplored physical and mental dimension. Once you are inside, in the giant 4-armed balloon, the involuted form reminds you of an organic outer space and inner self at the same time -- but when you travel outside of it (once you are back in the space of the grand palais), I hope the viewer has another encounter with the piece and with the luminosity thrown down by the glass roof."
Visitors to the Grand Palais will first use a revolving door to enter inside 'the belly of the beast'. A four-chamber balloon, bathed in red light, which the artist says he hopes has a cathedral-like quality.

"It is a building of extraordinary scale. The difficulty of the space is its scale - when you are inside and enclosed, it’s almost bigger than being outside! Somehow one has to deal with this volume, which is both horizontal and vertical. The verticality is the problem,
and the light is what makes the verticality a challenge."/Anish Kapoor/

Anish Kapoor is a perfectionist and had to overcome lots of 'technical' problems.
To cope with the light which floods through the palais’ glass ceilings he chose a very dark membrane. The mock-ups were not at all satisfying - the artist had previously experienced some problems of inflating the smaller size models accurately.
He did not know how this would look like on a giant scale until the work was erected. His crew took a week to install the work."There are no wrinkles!" he told us excited.

"The grand palais is one of those remarkable spaces in the world, a vast volume full of light, and has its own beauty. To make a work in it, one has to deal with all of that, especially the light. I want the viewer to have a moment of shock, aesthetically but also physically, so that
when you enter the nave you raise your eyes and say: "wow! could it be like that!"
"each artwork is above all an event".
Kapoor stated that the work’s title ‘Leviathan’, was related to the 17th century philosopher Thomas Hobbes’s book, published in 1651 (entitled after the biblical sea monster Leviathan), but at the same time he advised against over-literal interpretations.

With this exhibition, he calls for museums to close for a day in protest at detention of artist Ai Weiwei in China.

"As a colleague – I don't know him personally – I feel that as artists we have a communal voice and it's important that we stick together, that we have a sense of solidarity with each other,' Anish Kapoor said.
"It would be nice to see the art world come together a little more.
perhaps all museums and galleries should be closed for a day across the world. I think some such campaign needs to form itself."

'In-pulse!' is a multi-sensory installation by swiss-born artist / designer Rolf Sachs presented during Milan Design Week 2011.

Set over three rooms situated within studio Giangaleazzo Visconti, the installation focused on the primary physiological mechanisms of the human body, drawing particularly on the motion and sound of breathing, and the beating of the human heart, each space projecting its own distinct ambiance enhancing viewers' senses.

Mexican artist Gabriel Orozco explores the nomadic way of life and the principle of
constant movement throughout his work. Since 1992, the context of his art practice has
focused on the accelerated throwaway society of North America and Western Europe,
particularly that of New York and Paris. Through his work, Orozco seamlessly and symbiotically
unites the social and visual cultural experience of his latin american roots on many levels.

He is particularly keen on exploiting the expressive artistic potential that lies in ephemeral encounters
with life on the streets, direction his attention on inconspicuous situations and materials.
Following this nomadic principle and readiness to embrace the moment to coalesce into visual artefacts,
Orozco's art can be considered experiments with the 'things' of everyday life combined with
sculptural processes; a cross between workshop and worldview.

In the Gardens of Kensington in London from 28 September 2010 to March 13 2011 held an exhibition of work by Anish Kapoor titled "Turning the world upside down".You could see the latest works of art not previously shown (in this comparison) in London.The sculptures are made of stainless steel with a very high degree of reflectivity. They created the illusion of the world distorted, deformed and illusory. Different perspective of the viewer wondering. The exhibition is supported by Lisson gallery , Gladstone gallery and anonymous donors.

W ogrodach Kensington w Londynie od 28 września 2010 do 13 marca 2011roku odbyła się wystawa prac Anisha Kapoora pod tytułem "Turning the world upside down". Można było zobaczyć najnowsze prace artysty nie pokazywane wcześniej (w takim zestawieniu) w Londynie. Rzeźby wykonane zostały ze stali nierdzewnej o bardzo dużym współczynniku odbicia, dzięki czemu stworzyły one iluzję świata wykrzywionego, zdeformowanego i iluzorycznego. Zadziwiając widza odmienną perspektywą.
Wystawa zorganizowana była przy współudziale Galerii: Lisson i Gladstone, a także darczyńców

"The installation consists of 714 metal spheres hanging from thin steel wires attached to individually controlled stepper motors. Covering a six-square-metre area, the spheres enact a seven-minute long mechatronic narrative, creating a representation of the form-finding process in different variations. Moving chaotically at first, the sculpture evolves into several competing forms and eventually resolves as a final shape, which hints at the outlines of well-known BMW automobiles such as the 327, the 1500, the Z4 coupé and the Mille Miglia 2006. The cycle is synchronised with a graphic light strip running around the walls and texts and audio quotes from senior BMW figures on the company’s values and design aims."
